How did you come to support Wood Street Mission? Why Wood Street?
We initiated our support for Wood Street Mission in 2019, aligning with their 150th anniversary. As a Manchester-based bank, we chose Wood Street to support local families and children. The history and daily work of Wood Street, coupled with their resilience, resonated with our commitment to making a meaningful impact in our community.
What have you done to support us?
In our ongoing dedication to backing Wood Street Mission, we have actively engaged in diverse activities to contribute to their cause. This involvement spans participation in sporting events like the Dragon Boat Race and sponsored runs, as well as providing practical support, such as donating card machines to aid their fundraising initiatives. Moreover, we have equipped them with film and content sharing materials to amplify their outreach efforts and garner support from other companies. A highlight of our commitment lies in our active involvement in their Christmas campaign. We orchestrate a toy drive and mobilise the enthusiastic participation of our colleagues, customers, and business partners. We’ve also taken steps towards environmental sustainability by utilising an electric van, generously provided by one of our customers, for collections.
Why have you continued to support Wood Street for over 5 years?
Our continued support for Wood Street over five years is rooted in our belief in giving back to the communities we work in. Our colleagues resonate with Wood Street’s mission, and we aim to build enduring relationships. The well-thought-out and impactful programs, from Family Basics to the Christmas appeal, make us privileged to contribute to Wood Street’s vital work within the community.
What is the most fun or rewarding part of supporting Wood Street?
The most rewarding aspect of supporting Wood Street is witnessing the impact on families and children. Hearing stories like Pam’s in a short film we produced, where she shared how Wood Street changed her life, underscores the transformative effect even small contributions can have. Our team love participating in initiatives like the Christmas toy drive and events such as the Dragon Boat Race, which helps to make DF Capital a fun and rewarding place to work for our employees.
How did you get your team involved with supporting our projects?
Wood Street Mission was actually voted for by our colleagues to be our chosen charity in 2019. Our colleagues support the fundraising and initiatives we run to support the different projects by Wood Street. However, we always find that those who visit Wood Street’s HQ and volunteer for a few hours, come back with even more purpose and drive to give back. Whether its sorting donated items in the basement or helping at the door or in the main shop area, seeing first hand the amount of work and dedication that goes into the projects is inspiring.
There are some overwhelming statistics about the number of children living in poverty in Manchester and Salford, what would you say to someone who wanted to make a difference with this issue?
To those wanting to make a difference in child poverty, we’d say nothing is too small, and it’s never too late. Any effort is appreciated, and individuals can contribute through the website, from fundraising to physical or monetary donations and volunteering.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about supporting Wood Street Mission with their business/in their workplace?
If you’re in the Manchester and Salford area and want to support local families in need, you should definitely consider supporting Wood Street Mission. Fundraising through sponsored events such as 10K runs, hikes or football tournaments is a great way to start. In office events like bake sales are always fun, or holding a donation drive of uniform, school supplies, books, toys or clothing can be an amazing way for people to be involved and feel connected to the charity.
Is there anything we could do to better support you and your fundraising for Wood Street?
Just keep being your amazing-selves -you’re all so inspiring! A special thanks goes to Sophie for always being on hand and allowing us to support you throughout the year in our unique DF Capital-way.
