Wood Street Heroes – LDC

How did you come to support Wood Street Mission?

After meeting with Wood Street and choosing them as our local charity in Manchester to support in 2022 we have got involved in everything we possibly can to support them. We chose Wood Street as we believe supporting children and their families in our local community using our time and resources can have a significant positive impact on their future.

What did you do to support us?

We have really enjoyed doing all sorts as a team to support Wood Street and the families they help. We have collected essential items to donate towards their Family Basics project, bought children’s books for their Books Forever Appeal and collected toys and gifts for children to open on Christmas Day.

Our annual Quiz took the amount we raised and donated in 2022, in addition to gifts in kind, to over £25,000. This included match funding from our company for the money we raised as a team. Some of this has funded Childhood Experience days out for children to experience scootering and skateboarding, bouldering and trampolining and a theatre trip at Christmas. Experiences they wouldn’t usually get the chance to enjoy.

In addition, some of the team came down to Wood Street to volunteer at Christmas, helping families when they visited Wood Street to choose gifts and sorting through donations of toys.

How did it feel to be supporting a small, independent and local charity?

We appreciate being able to see the impact of our efforts and support. Supporting the Childhood Experiences project in particular it has been wonderful to receive photos and videos of the children enjoying themselves – and just being children!

What is the most fun or rewarding part of supporting Wood Street?

There are so many rewarding parts of supporting Wood Street Mission, but for us, it’s knowing that you personally have made a direct impact in improving a child’s quality of life. Whether you have donated a winter coat, a couple of books or some toiletries – you have made a child’s life a little better, and a parent’s a little easier.
