Helen, Henry (age – 9) and Arty (age – 4) you’re our Wood Street Heroes, tell us what made you decide to support Wood Street Mission?
Helen: I came to Wood Street ten years ago to film a documentary. We followed two amazing families being supported by Wood Street Mission and saw up close the massive difference it can make to children’s’ lives and aspirations. That’s it! I was hooked and have been fundraising ever since.
Can you tell us how you supported Wood Street Mission last year?
Henry: We did our first ever sponsored run together! And we cheered in the rest of the Wood Street runners.
Arty: We brought toys for Wood Street for the children who had nothing to play with.
What was your experience like at the Pizza Run?
Henry: It was one of the best days of my life! I got to run, I raised a lot of money for Wood Street and I got my first ever medal!
Helen: It was much more fun doing the run together, although I struggled to keep up with Henry!
What made you decide to support the Christmas project?
Henry: Because some children don’t have any toys at Christmas.
Arty: Because it’s a nice thing to do!
What was it like to work with a small independent charity?
Helen: I just love the whole team at Wood Street! They work massively hard – transforming the lives of thousands of kids and making sure every kid has a special Christmas. They deserve the Hero awards really! I think the really great thing is that you can really see the impact that any fundraising makes, big or small!
What would you say to someone thinking of supporting Wood Street Mission?
Helen: I would say, no child should be living in poverty in our city today – even the smallest donation or fundraising effort for Wood Street Mission could help change their future and make a big difference.
Henry: I would say do it!
Arty: Do it for the children!
